Another agent rejection

Thank you so much for sending SALLY CIRCLE for my consideration. Unfortunately, this project isn't a fit for me or the agency. Rhyming texts are very problematic right now. A lot of editors aren't buying them. If you want to see what kind of rhyme is selling, take a look at BUBBLE TROUBLE, LITTLE BLUE TRUCK or recent Caldecott Honor book ALL THE WORLD. This is really the caliber that I need to see before I can take a rhyming project on.

As you know, these decisions are highly subjective, and another agent may have an entirely different opinion. After all, it takes just one "yes" to find the right match. Thank you again for thinking of Andrea Brown, and I wish you the best of luck in finding a good home for your writing.

Associate Agent
Andrea Brown Literary Agency, Inc.

I seriously do appreciate the fact that she took the time to write me back. I think their website basically says that won't happen so I was surprised. Unfortunately, what she says doesn't bode well for me. Oh well- all I can do is keep trying. She's is subjective.

But listen here, world of agencies. I am a mom to a 1 1/2 year old and a 4 year old. I have been buying and reading picture books for a while now. The vast majority of what I read to my daughter rhymes. Go figure.

Hmmmm... that is interesting. And wow, she actually pointed you in the direction of rhyming books that are popular... that is really great for a rejection letter (hey, every cloud does have a silver lining...)!

I'm curious -- did she see the manuscript that I did, or was this submission from before you had it critiqued by the group? Because your manuscript is just so great... I can't imagine she'd think it wasn't of the same caliber as those other ones.

This was the manuscript that you saw. :-( But, after reading what it says about "no rhyming" in the book, I have a feeling that the Andrea Brown Agency basically shuns rhyme all together with very, very few exceptions. I guess I'll have to read those books she suggested, but honestly, I think (hope!!!!) someone besides us will like my rhyme!

Sorry to read about the rejection - but must admit this is a great rejection letter.
